Revolutionizing the Fight Against Corruption in Nigeria

corruption in nigeriaDear Nigerian, it is no news that corruption has bedevilled every aspect of the Nigerian society. It is also nothing new that corruption, perpetrated by our so-called leaders, is the cause of the horrors we experience daily in our communities or see hourly on the internet, television and other media outlets: From the menace of Boko Haram, herdsmen/farmers clashes, kidnappers, armed robbers and ritualists back home, to the torture and enslavement of Nigerian youths abroad. What is news is that the Revolutionary Nigeria Movement (RevNig) has devised ways we can revolutionise the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

Ask Americans just a few decades ago (or, indeed, Nigerians today) and they might say that graft is just a way of life. But today, America has been able to reduce corruption to the barest minimum. Strong institutions, backed up by the civil society, have evolved to checkmate the excesses of office holders. The fight against corruption in Nigeria is also surmountable if Nigerians are willing to use their democratic powers for good. By enforcing discipline and integrating modern day technology in the fight against corruption, crookedness can be tamed down to the barest minimum. It is said that where there is a will, there is a way.

The anti-corruption must start from us–the everyday Nigerian.

The following are ways we must revolutionise the fight against corruption in Nigeria. That is, what we, the everyday Nigerians, in coalition with the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) must do now to fix the scourge. Those that vie for leadership positions in Nigeria must embrace and champion these ideas to get our votes.

Fighting Corruption by Electing Credible Leaders

The first step the ordinary Nigerians must take in the fight against corruption must be to elect responsible and responsive leaders into positions of power (click here to read how we can select men of honour into positions of leadership). Therefore, any Nigerian that wants a corrupt-free nation must go out there and register to vote now! It is the responsibility of the Nigerian voters to screen candidates who wish to serve the country (read how to screen candidates here). If voters abide by the RNM scorecard rule, we are halfway there (click here to read about voters’ scorecard).

Mission 1: Energising the Unenthusiastic Nigerian Voters

Nigerian votersFellow Nigerians,

The outcomes of Nigeria’s presidential elections showed that we, the people, can determine who serves us if we do more in registering to vote and coming out on election days to vote.

Results of the 2015 general elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that 29,432,083 (29 million+) Nigerians voted out of a possible 68,833,476 (69 million+) Nigerians registered to vote nationwide, leaving out 39,401,393 (39 million+) registered voters who never make it to the polls on election day.

Considering that the total number of electors in the 2015 general elections was 29,432,083 (29 million+), and the winner, General Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, got 15,424,921 (15 million+), this group (29 million+) of reluctant Nigerian voters could–if they come out to vote — decide who gets elected in future elections.

Similarly, results of the 2019 general elections released by the INEC showed that 28,614,190 (28 million+) Nigerians voted — 35.66% turnout out of a possible 84,004,084 (84 million+) Nigerians registered to vote nationwide, leaving out 55,389,894 (55 million+) registered voters who never make it to the polls on election day.

Holding that the total number of electors in the 2019 general elections was 28,614,190 (28 million+), and the winner, General Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, got 15,191,847 (15 million+) votes, this group (55 million+) of reluctant Nigerian voters could, if they come out to vote, very well decide who serve us.

On this note, the RevNig Movement is appealing to this group of 55 million+ unenthusiastic Nigerian voters to join the movement and be ready to come out en masse on election days to cast their votes for responsible leaders. To help nominate and elect men of honour to serve us.

Fellow Nigerians, Never again must we leave our futures in the hands of crooks. We must now take our destinies into our hands. Collectively, we will do away with these gangsters parading themselves as Nigerian leaders.

Mission 2: Reaching Out to Responsive and Responsible Nigerians to Lead

responsible NigeriansThe RevNig Movement is reaching out to responsible Nigerians across the country and beyond, asking them to come out of their shells to help build a peaceful and prosperous nation. Patriotic intellectuals and experts who are ready to make selfless sacrifices in line with the ideals of the RevNig Movement. 21th-century thinkers and innovators who know what it takes to run a country. We of the RevNig Movement are imploring them to come out, get organised, and be ready to take over from the cabal that has hijacked Nigeria’s progress since Independence.

Despite the ruinous activities of our so-called leaders that have given Nigeria an irresponsible image abroad, there remain some men of honour and intellect who honestly wish the country well.

Responsible Nigerians abound at home and abroad. We listen to them on TV, on the internet, on the street and over the radio. What has been missing is a platform where they can bind and organise, making their talents, ideas, and dreams known, The RevNig Movement is providing them with that platform today. A platform to help make their dreams come true: No more excuses. Through the RevNig Movement, credible candidates will get the backing of the projected 20 million+ RevNig supporters, raising funds through them and getting them to embrace their ideas toward getting nominated as well as getting elected.

We of the RevNig Movement implore prospective office holders to do the following as soon as possible:

To start reaching out to Nigerians — selling their ideas and stating their positions on matters of national, continental and international affairs.

To reach out to like-minded patriots in pursuance of ideologically based political parties that will revolutionise and solidify Nigeria’s fragile democracy.

To show Nigerians how their government will look like by constituting a government in waiting with capable men of honour.

Finally, to help promote the ideals of the RevNig Movement: The power of the people.

NOTE: All of the above will be  best presented via a website, and Ortos WebDesign is offering to help develop sites that promote peace and prosperity in Nigeria

Mission 3: Raising Funds for Community and Self-Help Projects

raising funds

Fellow Nigerians,

Thanks to the Internet, the ability to raise our voices, organise ourselves and fundraise for the good of humanity has never been more effortless. Before long, RevNig will engage its envisioned 20million+ supporters in a fundraising drive that benefits the everyday people across Nigeria.

Before long, the RevNig Movement will start raising funds for candidates from supporters of the movement, online and offline, to running their campaigns, if need be.

The RevNig Movement will also commence crowdfunding for innovative startups and community development projects that benefit creative individuals and communities, respectively. Projects relating to potable water supply, healthcare, education, agriculture, research, science and technology, etc.

The RevNig Movement enjoins Nigerians who have political ambitions, startup or community development projects to execute but lack funds to start now by creating awareness about the initiative or project through an online platform. The knowledge of the project will facilitate fundraising.

The RevNig Movement urge Nigerians to join in the battle to relieve our people of the misery they face today.

NOTE: Projects endorsed by the RevNig Movement will undergo strict scrutiny in accountability and transparency. The RevNig Movement and other interested parties must have constant access to information about the use of donated funds. This information will be available to donors on RevNig and the project executor’s website.

Ortos WebDesign is volunteering to create fundraising websites, free of service charge, for those who have projects that will benefit the everyday Nigerian. Ortos will also guide such sites toward achieving their fundraising strategy and goals.

Mission 4: Fixing the Corrupted Electoral System in Nigeria

corrupted electoral system in NigeriaFellow Nigerians,

We, the everyday Nigerians, must use the power of the people vested in us in a democratic dispensation to demand fundamental changes to Nigeria’s electoral system.

Since Independence, the corrupted electoral system in Nigeria has been a means to an end for the gang of leaders destroying the nation: An end characterised by the looting of public funds, lawlessness and bitterness. In Nigeria, elections merely recycle and legitimise gangsters – military and civilians – of the same clique and mentality regardless of the political parties or ideology (if any) they supposedly uphold.

The consequences of these manipulated elections are the destruction of lives and the ruination of Nigeria.

Undoubtedly, over the years, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) leadership has been making some changes to Nigeria’s electoral process, but that is barely enough. The 2015 presidential election was deemed one of the most successful elections in Nigeria’s history by observers, yet many lost their lives to the manipulations of politicians. Still, some were propagating tribal sentiments. The election was also not free of electoral irregularities and manipulations.

With the upcoming 2023 general elections, Nigeria is on edge yet again. The gangsters are ganging up again. It will only take the power of the people to keep the nation together this time around.

On this note, fellow Nigerians, it is time we joined hands to stop these electoral deceits and manipulations.

Never again must we allow electoral machinations perpetrated by our so-called leaders to destroy our country, lives, and property. It is time you joined the RevNig Movement and used the supreme power vested in us, the people, in a democracy to make changes: A change that will relieve Nigerians of the criminals parading themselves as Nigerian leaders.

The RevNig Movement is advancing responsible electoral solutions that will checkmate electoral malpractices. The Nigerian electorates must consider these solutions when dealing with prospective political officeholders — when nominating or electing leaders in Nigeria.

The following are the ways to fix the corrupted electoral system in Nigeria.
